FAQ

All important information about ordering of 3D printing and manufacturing.

Manufacturing

How much does the 3D printing cost?
y, the material used, and the print quality settings. We offer volume discounts.
For 3D printing, the price of the final model depends on several factors:

  • Chosen material, technology and quantity
  • Print quality settings and time required for 3D printing
  • Size and complexity of the model
  • Delivery time (Express, Standard, Economy)
  • Post-print modifications (post processing)

The price may change if the model is printed together with other items. Since 3D printing requires some machine preparation, it is better and more economical to first fill the printer’s capacity, for example, with multiple smaller models. Therefore, the delivery time of the order can also affect the price, especially for smaller objects.

You can get a non-binding price quote most quickly by uploading your model via our form or by sending the model to info@tvaroch.sk.

Is 3D printing expensive?
It depends on what you are comparing 3D printing with. If it’s for individual production or copying something that is mass-produced, it is usually more expensive. If you are used to other manufacturing technologies, have designed objects for that technology, and want to produce the same objects with 3D printing, it is debatable. Sometimes it is worth it, but usually, the object needs to be adapted to the 3D printing technology.

In 3D printing, there are always more expensive and cheaper technologies and materials to choose from, depending on the purpose. Often, the model needs to be optimized for 3D printing technology by correctly dividing, orienting, or creating cavities, thereby significantly reducing the cost. It depends on whether you can take advantage of the benefits of 3D printing, such as speed and design freedom.

How long does the 3D printing take?

This mainly depends on the technology, material, size, and quantity.

For most materials using FDM technology, the turnaround is 1-5 business days. For SLS technology, it is 3-15 business days, with the most commonly used material being PA12. For metals using DMLS technology, it is 10-15 business days. For large-format printing, depending on the material, it is 1-15 business days. Upon confirming the order, we always inform you in advance about the delivery date of the model. The delivery date also affects the final price. We offer Express, Standard, and Economy delivery options.

What size objects can you produce?
The maximum print size varies for each technology and material and also depends on the overall geometry (shape) of the printed object.

For many large objects, which are mainly for presentation purposes, it is possible to divide them and then join them together. To cover the split areas, surface finishing can be done. Paradoxically, this can often be faster and cheaper than printing the object in one piece.

Approximate maximum dimensions for each technology:

  • FDM technology: 600 x 600 x 1200 mm
  • Mass production: 256 x 256 x 250 mm
  • SLA/MSLA technology: 2100 x 700 x 800 mm
  • SLS technology: 630 x 330 x 550 mm
  • MJF technology: 380 x 284 x 380 mm
  • DMLS technology (metals): 345 x 315 x 285 mm
What file formats do you recommend?
Unfortunately, there are many programs and formats that create 3D objects, and we cannot support all of them. Therefore, we recommend the following widely used formats:

  • 3D printing: .STL, .3MF, .OBJ, .STEP, .STP, .FBX
  • 3D CNC milling: .STEP, .STP
  • 3D CNC milling (relief or terrain): .STL, .OBJ, .FBX
  • 2D CNC milling/laser: .DWG, .DXF
What if my file format is different from .STL, .STP, .STEP or .OBJ?
First, try to find out if your software supports saving or exporting to one of the following formats: .STL, .STP, .STEP, or .OBJ. You can use the online tool Online Converter or the freely downloadable program Meshlab for converting.
What if my file is faulty, or broken how do I fix it?
For repairing 3D models, we have found Bambulab Studio and their guide on how to fix the model to be very effective. However, it is possible that some errors may not be fixable and the model may still be faulty. You can reach out to us and we will attempt to repair the model. If the repair is more complex and requires more time for remodeling, this service is chargeable.

Is 3D printing possible using just a photo?
3D printing from a photo is possible, although the process is not completely straightforward, and unless you have multiple high-quality photos from different angles, it is rather impossible.
