PETG

Durable thermoplastic materials with excellent qualities, used for quick and cheap prototyping or ready-made products. It has visible structure of layering material. It’s not suitable for models with complex geometry and fine details.

Typical use

PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate) is tough flexible and solvent-resistant material. In the case of ‘real-world’ products, it is used as a substitute for ABS.

Maximum size1PETG – 200 x 200 x 180 mm
Minimal wall thickness: 0,8 mm
Minimum detail size2: 0,4 mm
Layer height: 0,1 – 0,3 mm

1 largest model size printed as one piece, larger models are required to be printed as separate parts but they can easily be connected
2 details and structures of models smaller than the minimum details size can be wrongly portrayed or get lost entirely

Finishing

The final model can be edited further to achieve smooth surface. All kinds of modeling or acrylic sealant sprays are effective in sealing.

Colouring is suitable when the base is basic paint for plastic surfaces and afterwards acrylic spray paint.

For bonding, epoxy glue or cyanocrylate (superglue) is used. ABS can be also glued by acetone, in which it can be dissolved.

Technology

FDM (Fused deposition modeling) technology prints models by layering thin layers of material made from melted plastic fibres. This creates a firm structure with laminated surface.
